"Instead of the bright blue sky of America, I am covered with the soft grey fog of the Emerald Isle. I breathe, and lo! the chattel becomes a man." In 1845, American abolitionist, writer, and statesman Frederick Douglass traveled in Ireland as the Great Famine was beginning. During his two years speaking in Ireland and Great Britain, Douglass met and befriended the Irish champion for religious emancipation, Daniel O'Connell. The history that American and Ireland social reformers share is deep but is better illustrated nowhere than in the parallel efforts to elevate all people regardless of race, religion, or color. It is our great honor to share in that legacy through the commitment to inclusive excellence through the Georgia Southern Wexford campus. Like Douglass' own journey, ours will span years as well.

We are pleased to announce the 2021 dates for the Frederick Douglass Diversity & Inclusion Workshop Series. This year's series will be facilitated by Dr. Leslie Anderson and Dr. Lyle Foster of Missouri State University.
