The 2023 Brittany “Ally” Harbuck Award Ceremony and Poetry Reading from Eric Nelson
About this Event
11935 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31419
The Department of English is pleased to announce the 2023 Brittany “Ally” Harbuck Award Ceremony.
The $750 scholarship was created in memory of Brittany Ally Harbuck, a creative writing major who died in a traffic accident in April 2005 during her freshman year at Georgia Southern. Her parents raised more than $15,000 to endow the scholarship, which has been awarded since 2009. The winner will have these funds applied toward their tuition or book expenses. Each year, a published author serves as an outside judge to select the very best work submitted by a student.
This year’s winner is Amy Phelps, and the finalists are Zachary Mayo, Sofia Navarro, and Kennedi Williams. The judge was award-winning poet--and former Professor in the Department of Writing and Linguistics--Eric Nelson. The award ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, in the Ogeechee Theatre on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah. Light refreshments will be served, and Nelson’s books will be available for purchase.
