Student Media Speaker Series: Whitney Lavoie

Join us for the first session of the Student Media Speaker Series with Whitney Lavoie, editor at Grice Connect. Learn what editors look for in a pitch, how newsroom decisions are made, and what day-to-day life as an editor is really like. 

Come ready to take notes and ask questions. This session is open to all Georgia Southern students but is especially helpful for students in GA Daily, Deep Dive, and Your Newsroom teams within the Student Media organization who want to sharpen their pitching skills.

About our speaker:

Whitney Lavoie is the managing editor of Grice Connect, a hyperlocal digital news platform and community impact organization in Statesboro-Bulloch County.

Though Statesboro born and bred, she is a Double Dawg, having earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in public relations from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA.

Her professional background includes communications work in education, local government, and public health. She is a Girl Scout troop leader, secretary of the Julia P. Bryant Elementary PTO, and a trustee for the Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education.

She's married to Andrew Lavoie, a Statesboro attorney, and a mom of two kids, two cats, and many plants.
