A beacon of hope, the Statesboro Recovery Community lights the way for countless individuals living in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. This inaugural exhibition honors the early pioneers who first brought recovery to Statesboro, laying the foundation for a community of hope and healing. From these beginnings emerged Willingway Hospital, a family‑owned addiction treatment center whose inception and growth profoundly shaped the region’s recovery landscape. Building on that legacy, Statesboro’s recovery pathways have expanded through the leadership of Georgia Southern University’s Center for Addiction Recovery in the Jiann‑Ping Hsu College of Public Health, Freedom Through Recovery: Susan Ford Recovery Community Organization; and the many treatment providers, support groups, and recovery services that now sustain a vibrant and connected recovery community. Through photographs; journals; rare texts; historical articles; audio testimonials; and narrative context, the community’s voice resonates across time, reaching back to its 1950s origins and carrying forward the Mooney family’s dream of freedom for all who seek recovery.
