MFA candidate Ashley Smith explores scars through encapsulation, a desire to enclose and express the emotional scars of memory and the physical scars of the body. She is interested in how life’s experiences impact the living and the reactions that come from them. Through a variety of mediums, including metal, textiles, and photography, she utilizes found and created imagery, as well as a triality of text in order to preserve and contain these scars.
