Gabriel Lovejoy uses what he calls an open narrative to create paintings that push the concept of ambiguity while being visually grounded with a sound sense of design. He juxtaposes contrasting elements and styles to enhance a complex view of the union between the real and perceived, expressing the uncertainty found in today’s complex social and media atmospheres where multiple viewpoints engage and merge and overtake and orbit around one another, striving to take center stage simultaneously. These areas of oscillation, between consciousness and unconsciousness, between yes and no, generate exorbitant amounts of extraneous visual information and it is this excess that Lovejoy expresses through his art.
