Do Memories Make the Man? A.I., Thanabots, and Digital Immortality
About this Event
3025 Bull Street, Savannah
One emerging application in the rise of artificial intelligence is thanabots, or AI chatbots trained on data of the deceased to help the bereaved. It raises fascinating and troubling philosophical and ethical questions, and Professors Bill Eaton and Paul Tubig will discuss some of them.
William Eaton is an associate professor of modern philosophy at Georgia Southern University and a research associate at the Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies at the University of York. His research involves the connections among early modern philosophy, the philosophy of science, and contemporary metaphysics.
Paul Tubig is an assistant professor of philosophy at Georgia Southern University. He works primarily on social and political philosophy, ethics, and the philosophy of disability.
