Building a Research Program: Transitioning from an Early-Stage to Independent Investigator

Dr. Modlesky is the Georgia Athletic Association Professor of Kinesiology in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia (UGA) and co-director of UGA’s Pediatric Exercise and Motor Development Clinic. During his career, he has secured more than $4 million in extramural funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, the United Cerebral Palsy Research and Educational Foundation and the National Osteoporosis Foundation. He has served as a grant reviewer for the NIH, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Department of Defense.  Dr. Modlesky is currently a fellow of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and a past chair of its Research Committee.

He will present a 90 minute workshop on developing a focused research program with the purpose of securing external funding as an independent investigator. The presentation will focus on research design, career development and grant writing.
