Kingdom Under Glass explores the relationship between exploration and exploitation. For decades, natural history museums have presented dioramas that were meant to educate patrons, as well as preserve endangered animals or environments. However, these staged spectacles struck the artist as overly utopian and seductive.

The paintings in this exhibition question the role of dioramas and society’s perception of these scenes. Each painting highlights the idealized manner in which the specimens are presented, while also calling into question the methods in which they were procured.

Peragine’s work has been shown at venues such as The University of Arizona Museum of Art; Cheekwood Museum of Art; Weatherspoon Museum of Art; and Arizona State University Museum of Art.
