Center for Art & Theatre, University Gallery and Contemporary Gallery
223 Pittman Drive, Statesboro, GA
Monday, November 5, 2012 -
Wednesday, November 7, 2012
The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art is proud to present CONTINUUM, an exhibition that showcases paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, and works in new media by outstanding Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art alumni. The exhibition opened Monday, October 8 and will run through November 7, 2012 in the Contemporary Gallery at the Center for Art & Theatre, Georgia Southern University. The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art will host a reception on Friday, October 26, at 6 p.m.
“The selection of alumni work for this exhibition posed a curatorial challenge” according to Gallery Director Marc Mitchell, who teamed with Art History Professor Dr. Julie McGuire. “We are well aware of the many accomplishments of our alumni, but how were we to make selections among the many fine possibilities? It was akin to being asked, which is your favorite child?” added McGuire, whose history with the alumni aided the recently appointed Mitchell in the organization of the show. As a result, they identified a diverse, yet select, representation of the leading work being produced by the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art graduates. Both Mitchell and McGuire agree that the artists whose work has been selected for this inaugural alumni exhibition bring a range of approaches and techniques to their artistic practice. Seen together, their work exemplifies the vibrancy and eclecticism of the contemporary art world.
Alumni exhibiting: Ashley Anderson, Marisa Avelar, Samantha Bonnell, Rob Chandler, Justin Collins, Jermaine Dawson, Dawn/Michael Dickins, Scott Howard, Matt Jones, Duke Oursler, Michelle Parker, Desmal Purcell, Heath Ritch, Mandy Rutherford, Elizabeth Shoer, Linda Smith, Josh Strait, Matthew Toole, Josh Tuminella, Brent Williams, Ian Winsemius, and Michael Winsor.
