Laws and regulations are still evolving regarding employment rights of those in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. More than 20 states and many municipalities recently expanded their anti-discrimination protections to include transgender individuals. Moreover, the EEOC has asserted that gender identity is included within Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. There are more than 30 specific policies and practices covering nearly every aspect of employment for gay and transgender workers including nondiscrimination policies, training, domestic partnerships, dependent benefits, gender transition guidelines and employee resource groups.
